I have to say, sometimes I just need to cook things a bit quicker. And, when those times come, I love my Instant Pot!
These green beans are so delicious, perfect for any special occasion or just simple family dinner. And, they are super easy to make. They come out good and tender without being soggy.
I started with about a pound of sliced hog jowl, of course you can also use bacon. If I don’t have hog jowl, I prefer country ham. I cut the hog jowl up into bite-size pieces.
Hit “Saute” on the Instant Pot and let the pot get a bit hot then add the pieces in. Let them cook for around 5 minutes. If using bacon, you can let them cook until good and crispy. When done, hit “Cancel” and empty the pot into a bowl with strainer to drain the grease. I leave just a touch of the grease in the pot for flavor.
Add 1 1/2 cups of chicken broth to the pot and stir around, scraping the bottom to de-glaze it.
Now I add 2 12 oz. bags of frozen green beans to the pot, you can also use fresh, 2 Tablespoons of diced onion, 1 Tablespoon of minced garlic, you can also use 1 teaspoon of garlic powder if you prefer. Add salt and pepper to your liking. Remember there may be some salt already from your meat. Put the meat back into the pot.
Put the lid on your pot, close your vent, hit “Pressure Cook” for 4 minutes.
Remember the pressure will have to build before the countdown begins.
When the 4 minutes are up, move your vent over to do a Quick Release.
You are done and ready to enjoy your beans!
If you are not yet ready for them, you can leave your pot on “Keep Warm” until you are ready.
